In 1986, Gloria Killian was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, burglary, robbery, and conspiracy for a December 1981 home invasion and was sentenced to 32 years-to-life in prison – on the false testimony of a witness who later admitted that he offered false evidence as part of a deal with the prosecution. Killian’s conviction was overturned, and she was released in August 2002, with the charges subsequently dismissed. In this interview by Kayla Banks and Shaye Gill, Ms. Killian discusses her experiences in prison, her exoneration, and her work as an advocate for incarcerated women.
