The following is an interview with Mr. Obie Anthony, an exoneree and founder of the non-profit organization Exonerated Nation, conducted by students Elijah Blanton and Giovanni Katzaroff. Convicted of murder and attempted robbery at age 19 (in 1995) and wrongfully imprisoned for 17 years, Mr. Anthony’s was the first case taken up by the Loyola Law School’s Project for the Innocent. In this interview, Mr. Anthony discusses his personal experiences while in prison as an innocent man, the process of his exoneration (which came in November 2011), what it was like to reintegrate into society after years of incarceration, and what needs to be done in holding the system accountable to help prevent such miscarriages of justice.
